A tour in Nairobi is incomplete if you do not make a stop at the Nairobi Mamba Village. The Mamba village is a different kind of wild- Reptiles and Ostriches. It is home to over sixty crocodiles where the oldest is forty-five years of age. These crocodiles are bred there in the village and with temperature incubation their sex can be determined. Eggs in extremely high temperature are more likely to hatch male and eggs in medium/ cold temperature become female. It was so fascinating and scary to see crocodiles up-close that I opted for the adventure to hold a baby crocodile.
Lifting a tortoise for the perfect picture on the other hand is a bit much, with shell that secure and large they are rather weighty. As seen in the picture above, the tortoise is thirty years of age. A tortoise’s age is determined by the number of tiny rings on each bump on it’s shell. It is a completely different type of adventure to feed a tortoise and watch it eat so slowly and gracefully.
I also saw a few Ostriches and I must say, ostriches are the most aggressive.
The tour took the entire day and it was evening already; next location had to be the famous Carnivore where you eat all kinds of meat from birds to herbivores, reptiles even carnivores; hence the name. For the first time, I had a taste of an ostrich, crocodile and a lion. Believe it or not, they were quite tasty.
